Prof. ChenKaiju received his B. A. (in English Language & Literature) from Central China Normal University (1991), his M. A. (in Linguistics & Applied Linguistics) from Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages (GIFL 1994) in, and his PhD (in Cultural Studies) from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (2006).
After five years as translator and executive at Guangzhou Metro Corporation (from 1994 to 2000), he became a professional teacher of English language and literature at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (since 2000). He is presently Professor of English, Vice Dean of College of Continuing Education and Open college, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, MA supervisor in the “Language & Culture Programme”,the “English for International Business Studies Programme” and the “Translation Studies Programme”for Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. He is a member of Sino-American Comparative Culture Association of China, a directorof the Pragmatics Studies Association of China, and a member of the Experts’ Committee for the Adults’ Foreign Studies Education Association of China.
Professor Chen taught BA & MA courses at GDUFS such as “Comparative Cultural Studies”, “Translation”, “Popular Culture”, “Pragmatics” and various English language courses.
His more recent publications include Reconstructing Images of Chinese Peasantry (2007), “Trial by Media: Overcorrection of the Inadequacy of the Right to Free Speech in Contemporary China”(2011),“On the Power of Language” (2009), and has also published over 30 academic journal papers and book chapters in cultural,pragmatic and educational studies. He is currently working on a 3-year project Cultural Studies on Speech Right.
